Vienna's role, for centuries, as the seat of the Hapsburg Empire can be seen in its fantastic Baroque architecture and in the city's artistic and musical heritage. Many of the world's most important composers, including Ludwig van Beethoven and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, have lived and performed in the city. This beautiful, romantic city is situated on the banks of the Danube. Austria's climate is generally moderate and mild making it one of the most popular destinations in Europe. The majority of the tourist attractions lie on and within the Ringstrasse. The other districts lie beyond the Gürtel and extend into the foothills of the Vienna Woods, where wine taverns and picturesque villages are dotted amongst the vineyards.

Arts and Events

Vienna, famous for its musical heritage, the Danube and the beautiful white stallions at the Spanish Riding School, is the culture-rich capital of Austria. The Albertina, a wing of the magnificent Hofburg palace complex, is part modern museum and part classical palace. It houses a world famous collection of graphic art including sketches by Rubens, Cézanne, Klimt, Picasso and Durer. The Museums Quarter, the largest museum complex in Europe, is built in the Imperial Stables. The highlight of the complex, which also has a contemporary dance studio and a museum of modern art, is the Leopold Museum. It has the largest collection of works by Egon Schiele in the world.
