Cairo International Book Fair - January until February - Festival - Cairo Fair Grounds
Held at the Cairo Fair Grounds, the International Book Fair is one of the leading cultural activities in the Middle East. Al Nitaq Festival - February - Festival - Various
Growing in popularity, this cultural festival was created to showcase Egypt’s visual art, music, poetry and a host of other artistic disciplines. During the festival, the historic Townhouse Gallery and other small, privately-owned spaces showcase local artists, while cafes and cultural centres are transformed into theatres for drama, music and poetry readings. As well as visual art, visitors can enjoy films and lectures about Egyptian life and culture, poetry from local writers, as well as traditional and international music.

Oscar Video Clip Festival - 15 until 18 July - Festival - Pyramids of Giza

Organized by the Egyptian Association For Art of Cinema, the Oscar Video Clip Festival is an international event and competition held at the Pyramids at Giza. Open to all video architects, from producers and directors to singers and photographers, the video clips -not exceeding five minutes in length- compete for the prestigious Oscar statuette and Appreciation awards.

Arab Music Festival - 7 until 13 August - Festival - Cairo Opera House

Attracting top instrumentalists, singers and established ensembles, the Cairo Opera House bursts into life. Spectators are treated to a musical extravaganza of Arabic music at its very best. Among the many luminaries to have graced the stage in the past are musicians such as Simon Shaheen, Ibrahim Azzam, Khalil Abonula and Sonia M’barek.

Wafaa Al-Nil Festival - 15 August - Festival - Various
It was said that the Pharaohs sacrificed a beautiful virgin girl to the river in return for a good harvest. The ancient legend has survived into an ongoing tradition where a wooden doll dressed as a bride is thrown into the Nile instead. Cairo's Wafaa Al-Nil Festival, translating as ‘Fidelity of the Nile’, remembers the ancient Egyptian adoration of the river and today's celebrations focus on the arts, poetry, concerts and a variety of scientific discussions.

A thrilling week-long endurance race across the Sahara desert, Pharaohs Rally attracts top competitors from around the world.
