Thaipusam - February 2010 - Event - Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple Thaipusam is a Hindu thanksgiving celebration, in honour of Lord Subrahmanya who represents virtue, youth and power and is known as the destroyer of evil. Singaporean Hindus demonstrate their unwavering faith in the spectacular Thaipusam street procession from Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple, travelling four kilometres and finishing at the Layan Sithi Vinayagar Temple on Keong Siak Road. During the procession, these highly dedicated participants - who undergo a strict regime before they proceed to carry the kavadi - are joined by supporters who drum and chant to keep up their morale. |

Singapore Marathon - 6 December - Event - Various Attracting some of the world's most seasoned athletes the Singapore Marathon starts at the Esplanade Bridge, crossing the Singapore River and snaking round the city, through the Marina and the central business district, before meeting a raucous crowd at the Padang and the finish line on St Andrew's Road.
