Amanpuri, Phuket

Opened in 1988, Amanpuri was the very first Aman resort, named for the Sanskrit word for ‘peace’. This tranquil retreat is now the flagship property in the Aman family, an award-winner which has stood the test of time.

Amanpuri captures the warmth and generosity of spirit so unique to Thai culture, while allowing nature to reign supreme. The sincere and heartfelt service creates the ambience of a welcoming private home where guests can relax and rejuvenate in beautiful natural surrounds. Located in a secluded coconut grove overlooking a sheltered bay, the resort radiates from the private crescent-shaped beach lapped by the Andaman Sea. Private villas grace the peninsula affording guests spectacular views, while other facilities include a Beach Club and lap pool, a hillside gym and spa and a number of restaurants, situated in picturesque locations around the resort.

Dining
The Terrace Restaurant offers casual all-day dining in an alfresco setting and features Thai and European specialties. The Restaurant serves Italian cuisine and is open for dinner year round and lunch during high season. Both are adjacent to the resort’s main swimming pool. Weather-permitting, lunch can be enjoyed at the Beach Terrace, while Naoki, set just behind the beach and open during the high season, serves Chef Naoki Okumura’s original French kaiseki fare, combining the best of French technique with Japanese artistry.

The Bar offers poolside drinks and snacks throughout the day, and at dusk, half a dozen moulded-brass tables and pairs of teak, rattan-backed chairs are set out along the terrace between the pool and the steps to the beach so that guests can enjoy the sun setting over the Andaman Sea. From late November to April, weather and tide permitting, evening torch-lit barbecues are held on the beach.

Spa
The Aman Spa at Amanpuri was Amanresorts’ first full-service spa. Six spacious Thai-style treatment pavilions each offer an open, light-filled space of wood and glass with private steam room, shower, bath, dressing area and outdoor meditation sala. Healing or traditional treatments can be enjoyed individually or as a couple, and spa treatments may also be enjoyed in the privacy of guest pavilions or villas.

The extensive Aman Spa menu includes a range of healing therapies as well as traditional treatments such as facials, body wraps, scrubs and baths. Aman Spa therapists can tailor a treatment programme based on an assessment of guests’ individual needs. Aman Spa products used in the treatments are handmade and incorporate essential oils and creams made from the purest ingredients derived from organically-grown plants. There is also a traditional sauna, granite steam room and a fountain terrace where health drinks are served. Complimentary guided yoga and meditation sessions are offered at daybreak in the open-sided salas set high on the hillside.

Hotel Features
Amanpuri’s beach is lined with sun loungers and umbrellas, and beach attendants serve light refreshments as well as cool cocktails, cold towels and ice. Guests can enjoy complimentary windsurfing, snorkelling, sea kayaking and body boarding, as well as Hobie cat and Laser sailing, with attendants providing qualified instruction as needed. Searay Bowriders helmed by trained crew are available for waterskiing at a nominal fee.

A nearby reef is flush with fish, and complimentary fins, snorkels and masks are provided. The best snorkelling is on the coral reef located between the swimming platform and the headland in front of the villas. Snorkellers can hand feed or swim among the fish. All activities are available between December and April, weather and tide permitting.
