Luxury Hotels in Europe > Turkey

Turkey is undergoing something of a revival as a tourist destination, only this time, it's entirely focussed on the luxury market. The indulgent spa experience has found a new home in Turkey, and the Turks, with their ancient hamam culture and many thermal springs, are stepping up to the plate superbly.

Istanbul is a stunning city, blending a heady mix of ancient muslim, middle-eastern culture with twenty-first century European metropolis. Minarets pierce the skyline while glitzy clubs keep revellers going until the dawn. Nouveau Ottoman cuisine is getting a fine reputation for itself, helped by its excellent pedigree and the burgeoning luxe traveller scene.

Nearby is the Bosphorous, a wide strait which splits Istanbul in two, where elegant houses seem to float on the water's edge. Many of these palatial waterfront homes are now enjoying a new lease of life as boutique hotels and offer exceptional views.

The underground caves of Cappadocia are mirrored above ground by rocky canyons and towering outcrops. Prehistoric settlers carved houses out of the rose-hued rock, many of which are still in use. Take a hot-air balloon to really appreciate this curious landscape then take time to watch the whirling dervishes and you'll forget that you're in Europe.
