Luxury Hotels in Arezzo, Tuscany

Undoubtedly the most romantic region of Italy. Drive the winding roads through wheatfields specked with red poppies, and as you hit the rise you spy in the distance a golden house of rough stone sitting on the crest of a hill and guarded by the quintessential line of cypress trees. This, truly, is the beauty of Tuscany.

Tuscany is home to Florence, Siena and Pisa. As three principal cities in Italy's past, a wealth of medieval and Renaissance culture, from art to architecture, is around every corner. Soaring belltowers, domed cathedrals and ornate public buildings vie for attention in each of the main cities. The coast offers some pretty harbour towns for a low key day out, and the entire region is dotted with thermal springs. Today there are many resorts taking advantage of this natural resource, and original Roman spas still exist in the towns of Saturnia, Roselle, Chianciano and Chiusi.

Tuscany is another wine-producing region, giving us, amongst others, Chianti and Montepulciano. Tuscany tends to bring to mind hearty bean stews, and it is easy to see how the cuisine came to be. Produce from the farms, game from the woodland and fish from the coast produce dishes such as Tonno e Fagioli, onion soup, salt cod and bistecca. The tangy Pecorino cheese is a proud Tuscan product, too.
